Supported Living Services (SLS) consist of a broad range of services to adults with developmental disabilities who, through the Individual Program Plan (IPP) process, choose to live in home they themselves own or lease in the community. SLS may include:
These services help individuals exercise meaningful choice and control in their daily lives, including where and with whom to live. SLS is designed to foster individuals'' nurturing relationships, full membership in the community, and work towards their long-range personal goals. Because these may be lifelong concerns, SLS services are offered for as long and as often as needed, with the flexibility required to meet a persons' changing needs over time, and without regard solely to the level of disability. Typically, an SLS services agency works with the individual to establish and maintain a safe, stable, and independent life in his or her own home.
The guiding principles of SLS are set down in Section 4689a of the Lanterman Act. The Department of Developmental Services regulations can be found in Title 17, Division 2, Chapter 3, Subchapter 19, (Sections 58600 et seq) of the California Code of Regulations (CCR)
Out-Of-Home Respite Services:
Out-of-Home Respite Services are designed to provide temporary housing for individuals who are cared for in their family home (or similar setting). Respite is provided for up to 2-weeks per year. Referrals are made to our agency and clients are assessed for compatibility prior to respite admission. Out-of-home respite provides a short break for those responsible for caring for loved ones who need constant support. This is an opportunity to relax, unwind, and let us take over for a couple weeks. To start the referral process, please call or visit our "CONTACT US" page.
PARENT/CAREGIVER SLS AGENCY DEVELOPMENT:
There are times when waitlists are so long and services so impacted, we have to take matters into our own hands and create what we need. That's exactly what we did and we are grateful every day for the opportunity we had to develop an agency for the benefit of our own son. In light of this, we know the process is somewhat daunting and many of us look at the process and wonder where to even start. We may need the service so badly, but putting one foot in front of the other can seem like an impossible task. Not to worry, we are here to help!
We have done it and we have created a successful, thriving agency that works collaboratively with the Regional Center to administer an SLS program that meets the staffing demands of our clients and provides the budget we need to find the best qualified staff. We do NOT profit on this endeavor and if you hope to supplement your income doing this, I recommend you find a different avenue because this is not it. If you want and need a program like SLS to afford your adult child with developmental disabilities an opportunity to life a meaningful life in their own home, with the most appropriate supports in place to do it, then this might be the program for you to pursue.
We can assist you with the entire process from A-Z. With an approved program design, we know what it takes to get approved and the steps you need to take to start your own Parent-Vendored SLS agency.
